Links to an external site.

As human services professionals, our commitment to ethical standards is fundamental to our practice. The NOHS outlines several key ethical responsibilities under the subject, “Responsibility to Clients” (standards 1-9). These standards regarding clients include ensuring informed consent, respecting the right to privacy, maintaining confidentiality, establishing appropriate boundaries, and adopting a strengths-based approach.

For this discussion, please reflect and respond to any two of the following tabs of topics and questions:

·

Informed Consent

·

Right to Privacy and Confidentiality

·

Boundaries with Clients

·

Strengths-Based Approach

Informed Consent

Describe a scenario in which obtaining informed consent might be challenging. How would you ensure that the client fully understands the nature, risks, and benefits of the services provided?

For your initial prompt:

· Describe the situation.

· Identify which specific NOHS Ethical Standards were/would be relevant.

· Explain how these standards guide your actions or decisions.

· Describe how this experience impacted your understanding of professional ethics.

· Explain any insights you gained about the importance of the NOHS code of ethics in human services.
