Comprehensive Exam: Research Method Paper Assignment Instructions

Overview

You are to prepare an 8–10 page research paper on the research methodology you intend to use in your Prospectus/Dissertation research work. This paper must demonstrate that you have a “comprehensive knowledge” of the methodology. For example, if you are doing qualitative case study method, your paper ought to be on the case method. Or, if you are doing a quantitative study using a correlational design, you would want to write your paper on correlational research. If you are employing statistical measures, you should discuss those measures.

If you are doing a mixed-methods study, you should do your paper on the method that will be the most prevalent in your study or the one you are least knowledgeable regarding and are seeking to better understand.

Instructions

Before you begin this exam, please read this instructions sheet carefully. All work must conform to these requirements.

Goal:
To develop a research paper that that demonstrates your grasp of the research method to be employed in your dissertation design.

Format, Length, and Citations:

1. You must use APA style.

2. Your paper must be 8–10 pages in length, not counting title or reference pages.

3. You must use proper citations where appropriate.

Contents:

1. Description of the method

2. Purpose and use of the method in research

3. Data collection processes typically required in using the method

4. Data analysis processes typically required in using the method

5. Examples of the method (identify two or three studies that have used this method)

6. Implementing the method (why did you select this method and how will you use it in your research)


Grading:

You must receive a total score of 125 points or above to successfully pass the
Comprehensive Exam: Research Method Paper
Assignment segment of the exam. Students who score below 125 points will be required to rewrite this exam segment.
