Write and post a 400-500 word focused argument about the reading. You should establish your point from the beginning (i.e., in the first sentence) and support your claims with textual evidence. Your post can:

  • Draw a comparison between something in the text to something today by arguing that the element in the text has influenced some element of today’s culture. Be personal. Think about how the elements in the text have influenced your own life.
  • Discuss how some element in the text came to be. For example, why did Plato come up with his Allegory of the Cave, or why did Beethoven put more personal emotion into his music?
  • You can look at other sources, but you don’t need to. This should be a reflection of the week’s readings.

Your post should demonstrate your understanding of the material in the chapter as well as further the discussion with new ideas.

NOTE: DO NOT write about religion in terms of your own religious beliefs. If you want to write about religion, write about how the culture at the time influenced the doctrine. For example, you could post about why the ten commandments instruct the Hebrews not to worship graven images and how that has influenced religion today.
