Your assignment is to visit a local art museum and describe your experience. Pay attention to each aspect of your experience and take notes when appropriate. Allow yourself a significant amount of time to look around; two hours will probably be sufficient. For this analysis, you will refer to Assignments #1, 6, 7, and 8 in the Gateways to Art’s Journal for Museum and Gallery Projects. Each section provides questions to help you form your analysis. Use the guided questions in the journal to draft a thorough, detailed analysis of the artwork you select.

For this analysis, you will refer to Assignments #1, 6, 7, and 8 in the Gateways to Art’s Journal for Museum and Gallery Projects.

During your visit,

  1. You will select a representational, non-objective, or abstract work of art and complete a formal analysis of the piece. (Refer to assignment #1 of the journal)
  2. You will select a historical or cultural work of art and complete a contextual and thematic analysis of the piece. (Refer to assignment #6 and #7 of the journal)
  3. You will evaluate and document your museum experience. (Refer to assignment #8 of the journal)

WORK OF ART INFORMATION:

  • Take pictures of each work of art that you select. If pictures are not allowed, then take time to sketch the work of art and submit your drawing with your paper.
  • State the title, artist, date, dimensions, and medium (what it is made of).
  • State the name of the exhibition in which the work was displayed/ where the artwork is located.

PROOF OF ATTENDANCE:

  • Before you leave the museum don’t forget to take a selfie picture inside for your proof of attendance.

Instructor Note: DO NOT film in areas where filming is not allowed!
