McLaughlin and McLaughlin (2024) suggest “increased international competition for jobs has highlighted the high costs of U.S. healthcare and the impact of concentrating those costs onto large employers that purchase health insurance for employee and retirees; however, the portion of workers receiving health insurance coverage at their place of employment has decreased in recent years. Employers have sought to control costs through managed care organizations and shifting more of the financial burden to their workers” (p. 11).

- Discuss two pros and two cons regarding employer-provided health insurance as it relates to employees and its effect on access, cost, and quality of care.
- Explain how health care leadership should educate (preventive care initiatives) employees to become motivated and participate in health insurance programs, thus lowering the overall average premiums.
- Describe preventive services that Medicare and Medicaid should cover and that might aid in reducing over-all healthcare costs.
