Follow these guidelines when completing each component of the assignment. Contact your course faculty if you have questions.

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) ensures the quality of client care using defined standards. Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS)Links to an external site. is a performance measurement tool millions of health insurance plans use. HEDIS includes six domains of care:

  • Effectiveness of Care
  • Access/Availability of Care
  • Experience of Care
  • Utilization and Risk Adjusted Utilization
  • Health Plan Descriptive Information
  • Measures Collected Using Electronic Clinical Data Systems

Expand each HEDIS domain to review the associated performance measures. Select one NCQA HEDIS performance measure related to your future practice area.

General Instructions

      2. Clinical workflow integration
      3. Documentation

  3. Measurement
    1. Identify a tool or data collection technique to measure the outcomes of implementing the selected performance measure. (e.g., survey, statistical analysis, etc.)
    2. Describe how the tool can be successfully implemented.
    3. Provide an in-text citation from one scholarly source to support your writing.
  4. Application to Practice
    1. Discuss how the interventions can improve client outcomes.
    2. Discuss how the interventions can improve cost savings for the practice.
    3. Discuss how the interventions can improve client ratings (on an NP’s client scorecard).
    4. Provide an in-text citation from one scholarly source to support your writing.
  5. Reflection
    1. Reflect on the importance of using NCQA HEDIS performance measures in clinical practice.
    2. Identify two key takeaways to apply to your current or future practice.

In each of these domains are specific performance measures. Please see the attached document that outlines the specific measures under each of these HEDIS domains. You must use a specific performance measure for this assignment. DO NOT use the broad domain for your discussion.

For instance, under Effectiveness of Care, you will see in the document “Lead Screening in Children.” The abbreviation for this specific performance measure is LSC. You could use this topic to complete this Week 5 assignment.
