DAN 111 FINAL Overview—”Research in Dance”

This overview outlines the steps and components for your DAN 111 Final Project. Refer to Project steps for specific Instructions, Information and Help Documents.

Research can not be completed quickly! The Final Project is designed to be worked on over the last 3-weeks of class and turned in December 19, during Finals Week. Students will be offered earlier dates for feedback on topics and other parts of the Project.

Work may NOT BE TURNED IN LATE! The Final Project Portal will close at midnight on the Due Date. Students who believe they will need extra time must speak to Dr. Stern by email or during office hours no later than December 12 and are required to have completed at least 3/4 of the semester’s course work to receive an INC.

General Project Information

The DAN 111 Final Project is a Research Project. It should focus on a dance related topic of personal interest. Your Final should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of your subject learned through research and from class materials. The topic question (thesis) is to be demonstrated through relevant concepts, questions, information, and practices. It should demonstrate learning in DAN 111.

In your Final Project you must show that you have investigated the topic (research), used information from your research (sources) including properly quoting and citing in your paper and a correctly constructed source list. You will show your key idea (thesis) and outline how you will prove that idea (statement of purpose), followed by a summary of your key argument or research question.

The DAN 111 Final includes 3 activities. Do not neglect any of these components.

  1. Research Writing Project is divided into various activities. Complete each part of the process by the Due Date.
    • writing a proposal
    • research and creating a properly formatted Source List
    • writing a thesis and statement of purpose
    • realizing them as a summary in either a written paper or a presentation.

This part of the Final carries the most points.

2. Project Self-Reflection—This Reflection is graded on the Final Rubric. It provides you an opportunity to tell me about what you learned, and what was difficult, in the FInal Project Process. I take into account your Reflection when grading the Final.

3. Course Reflection—This ungraded Reflection lets you think about your learning this semester and provide me with your feed-back.

For HELP with your Final Project ask the following people:

  1. For help with research: ask the QCC Librarians. They know where to look no matter your topic and are really happy to assist you in your research! Also-take the Libraries Research 101 class. 5 extra points on the Final if you hand in the certificate with your Final. Also, use the DAN 111 Libraries in this module and connected to various week’s course wortk.
  2. For help with all parts of the writing process (and with research): Go to the Writing Studio in the Tutoring Center. They have both appointments and walk-in times. You can get both live and zoom help.
  3. For HELP with the Project read the Project Instructions and watch Informational PowerPoint(s).

For Dance Research Project Steps and Due Dates follow the included activities IN ORDER. Pay attention to suggested supplemental materials and actions. Due Dates are listed with each
