Task – should electric cars entirely replace fuel cars?

Write an argumentative essay of 1000-1200 words (roughly five paragraphs) which answers the research question. This word count does NOT include Works Cited – the 5

paragraphs should contain the 1000 words. Use the Proposal and Direct Quote Assignment as plans to guide your writing. This is not a pros and cons/compare andcontrast essay, it is an argumentative essay.

Structural Requirements

Introductory paragraph  must provide some background information about the topic and must end with your argumentative thesis statement.

The thesis  must answer the research question in  onesentence and provide the  three  reasons for your claim.

Minimum  three  body  paragraphs,  not  less. Each body paragraph  must have a topic sentence.

Concluding paragraph  must  restate the thesis in different wording and should make a suggestion to the reader about the topic being discussed.

No  more than  5  direct  quotes  can be used in the entire essay.  Minimum  3.

No  usage  of  I/we/me/my/our/us  is permitted.

No casual language or short forms are permitted. Please write in an academic tone.

MLA Requirements

The essay must follow MLA conventions and formatting – typed, double-spaced, with 12- point font size, first-line indents, reasonable (1”) margins. Refer  to  the  MLA  StyleGuides  on  MyCC. Use the “Cite” button from databases.

You  must use a minimum of 3 sources (journal articles, newspapers, books, e-books, magazines, websites, etc.) containing evidence to support your claims. At least 1 source MUST be an academic journal article. Maximum 5 sources.

Each source MUST be cited  at least  once  in-text  in the essay.

ALL quotations and paraphrases must be cited  in-text  inMLA  Style.  Your own thoughts/analyses do not need to be cited.

The Works Cited page  must  be at the  end  of your essay, on a separate page. Remember, this must be in alphabetical order and have hanging indents. Refer to the MLA Style Guides on  MyCC. Use the “Cite” button from databases.

No coloured fonts or subheadings.

General Notes

The ONLY accepted file formats are .doc, .docx or .pdf.

DO NOT simply present facts and evidence from other authors and material you read. Rather, you MUST analyseand discuss your topic. You must include your own views, but without using “I”. If your paper simply reassembles sources from elsewhere without the addition of your own thoughts, then this constitutes a breach of academic integrity and

Research Notes

You are required to search for and examine scholarly sources outside of the course texts to deepen and broaden your knowledge on these subjects.

A large portion of academic writing involves establishing what positions other researchers in the field have taken by citing and summarizing existing scholarly research, and using this material to support your arguments.

Students must use at least one academic journal article, which is an essay written by a scholar for a peer-reviewed journal. Use the electronic databases (JSTOR, ProQuest, EBSCOhost, etc.) available through the library on your MyCC page to search for journal articles.

Sources such as encyclopaedias, newspapers, books, magazine articles, documentaries and textbooks are permitted, but are not academic journal articles.
