  • What are some of the possible pitfalls of an online course? How can you make sure that you do not fall victim to them?
  • Do you struggle with procrastination?   If so,  how do you plan to adjust your approach so that you are successful in the course?

  • If some of your writing skills are weak, how do you plan to strengthen them?

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/12/10/business/location-data-privacy-apps.html?action=click&module=RelatedLinks&pgtype=Article

InstructionsFor this assignment, write a 1 -2 page (300-600 words) rhetorical analysis of the article Your Apps Know Where You Were Last Night

You can also use the following questions to help you generate ideas.

1. What is the author's purpose?  What does he or she hope to achieve?

2. Who is the intended audience?  How do you know?

3. Identify the types of appeals made by the author (logos, pathos, ethos).  How effective are they?

4. What do you know about the author?  Do you find him or her credible (ethos)?  Why or why not?

5. What evidence does the author provide to support the argument?  Is the evidence relevant and trustworthy?

6. What is the setting or context?  In other words, what event or problem inspired the author to write the essay?

7. Describe the author's tone or attitude.  Is it serious, flippant, angry or sarcastic? How does the attitude affect the argument?

The questions above are here to provide you some guidance in writing your analysis.  However, you should not merely string together a series of short answers to the questions.  Your analysis should be written in essay format, with an introduction, multiple body paragraphs and a conclusion.

Be sure that your document is formatted correctly and that you have a proper heading in the document. If you are unsure about what is required, review the material in Start Here-Orientation II (or in the section on MLA and Citation) and follow the models.

Your assignment must be submitted as a .doc or .docx attachment. Also, name your file correctly (your Last Name and brief description of assignment: e.g., Johnson, WN 1.1.docx)

NOTE: To submit your work, click on the title of the assignment above, scroll down the page, click on the "Browse My  Computer button, locate and attach your file, and hit Submit. This will be the procedure throughout the course.
