Topic for Paper: Reduce Food Insecurity in Children under 18 years old in Vance County, North Carolina 

Overview:   

Complex systems change efforts typically involve a wide variety of actors with a range of relationships to the system in question (e.g., policymaker, ‘consumer,’ service provider, etc.). To advance change that is sustainable, leaders need to establish systems of accountability. While some partners’ roles are set by law or policy, many others may be less obvious and need to be defined.  

The purpose of this deliverable is to help the county commissioners understand the roles of community partners in relation to the SDOH changes your group recommends. Your goal is to propose mechanisms for community-based partners to assume responsibility and build their capacity to govern and execute the priorities for their community’s health. Refer to the engagement strategy for your project and (a) develop a governing vision and strategy, (b) indicate key partners who would be members of a steering committee to guide the effort to address the SDOH, and (c) describe why the steering committee would be accountable.

LIP6. Develop structures of accountability to promote good governance and stewardship of resources to improve population health.  

Course Learning Objectives:  

L4. Articulate how different and complementary leadership strategies affect engagement and inclusion of diverse partners in advancing equitable population health outcomes.  

L5. Demonstrate how power, emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills influence trust, credibility, and competence for public health leaders.  

  

Format: Word Document, 5-6 pages. , not including table or matrix used for analysis. Tables and charts should be presented in the appendix. Use the bold text as headings.

Assignment Requirements   

Leadership Alignment and Commitment (1½-2 pages)  

From the engagement plan, identify the partners who will serve on a steering committee.  

Cleary state why these partners are important for sustainability and how their interests, influence, power, and authority will support this work over time.  

Propose a Governing Vision and Goals (2½-3 pages) 

Propose a vision for the steering committee that reflects how things will be different (better health, affordable housing, walkable communities…) if the program and/or policy are fully implemented.  

List three goals toward achieving this vision.  

Identify which partners will be responsible and accountable for distinct aspects of the work.  

Using the tool of your choice, describe the roles of the identified members in relation to the approach proposed by your group.
