A synthesized case study is designed for the specific needs of a client presenting with a mental health disorder. It allows you, as a practitioner and scholar, to integrate theory and research into your practice and apply advanced mental health interventions.

In this assignment, you will apply theory to expand on the previous assignments by identifying ethical dilemmas, establishing treatment goals for the client and family, developing a plan to evaluate practice, and creating a follow-up plan that will ensure the client’s success. In addition, you will incorporate critical thinking, leadership skills, and emerging technologies as you analyze implications for professional practice.

By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following EPAS and specialized practices:

Competency 1: Demonstrate Ethical and Professional Behavior

C1.SP.A Utilize best practices in ethical decision-making by applying leadership skills, technology, relevant laws and regulations, core values, and standards of the NASW Code of Ethics to an ethical problem-solving model to inform ethical decision-making in the specialization of advanced generalist practice.  

  • Related Assignment Criterion: Explain at least one potential ethical dilemma in the case and how to address it by applying the NASW Code of Ethics.

C8.SP.B Analyze and integrate culturally responsive best practice theories and methods in the specialization of advanced generalist practice to negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on the behalf of clients and constituencies.  

  • Related Assignment Criterion: Develop a discharge and follow-up plan from a systems perspective that will ensure the client’s success. Utilizes leadership skills and emerging technologies in the plan.

C8.SP.C Apply leadership skills, decision-making, interprofessional conceptual frameworks, and emerging technologies in the specialization of advanced generalist social work practice when intervening with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities to promote systemic change towards client sustainability.

Complete this assignment using the identified headings. Upon completion, it should be 12–15 pages in length and use APA style and formatting.

Assignment Instructions

  • Make the revisions to the Week 3 and Week 7 assignments that were recommended by your instructor. Build this assignment onto the revised Weeks 3 and 7 assignments as if you were adding new information to the client’s electronic health record.
  • Assess the client’s strengths, weaknesses, and social support systems. Explain how the client’s right to self-determination might impact the treatment process. Support your ideas with research. (C7.SP.B)
  • Explain at least one potential ethical dilemma in the case and how to resolve the dilemma by applying standards from the NASW Code of Ethics. (C1.SP.A)
  • Describe and apply the systems theory perspective to include the client’s family at the micro, mezzo, and macro level. Apply research to explain the treatment approach for the client and family for each system. (C6.SP.A)
  • Develop at least three short term goals and three long term goals for the client. Develop two objectives to attain each of the short term and long term goals. Objectives should be written in SMART format to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time specific. Include the client’s diversity needs in the intervention. (C8.SP.A)

  • Conclusion: Conclude the assignment by writing a comprehensive summary of your work with the client from assessment to discharge. Explain how leadership perspectives and interprofessional conceptual frameworks in the community influence the process and outcomes to consider the person in the environment. (C8.SP.C)
