For your assignment, you will start by reviewing the below scenario and then creating a mind map that will be presented through a PowerPoint slide accompanied by an audio narration explaining your thought process and analysis.

First, examine the following scenario:

Susan is a physician in a multi-physician practice. One night after work, while Susan was grocery shopping, Susan was approached by the husband of one of her patients. The husband stopped Susan to ask about his wife’s condition. Susan remembered the husband from accompanying his wife on appointments in the past and she knew her diagnosis was not good and that she could use some family support. Susan told the husband that the diagnosis was serious, and it would really help if he could be emotionally supportive of his wife as well as help more with the household chores. Susan told the husband that it might be a good idea if the husband kept their conversation to himself so the wife would think that the incentive to help came from him. Susan did not know that the patient and her husband had divorced recently.

After considering Susan’s situation, create a mind map to visually represent your responses to the following prompts:

Are Susan’s actions a violation if she, as a doctor, was only looking out for the welfare of her patient? Why, or why not?

  • If, while discussing her patient’s condition and needs with her patient’s husband at the grocery store, their conversation was overheard by other shoppers, is there any violation of the patient’s right to privacy? Is there a violation if Susan had not intended that others hear their conversation? Explain your answer.
  • How does this situation fit into the HIPAA Privacy Rule?
  • What would be the acceptable actions for Susan to have taken upon being approached by her patient’s husband?

There is no standard format for a mind map, so you may create yours however you choose. The goal is simply to create a visualization of your responses to the prompts. Keep it simple and readable; you will be adding narration to explain things in further detail.

There are many free resources online such as Canva, Miro, and Mindomo that you can use to create a mind map to illustrate your thoughts. You can also search the internet to find many free templates and examples.

Next, insert your mind map image into a PowerPoint presentation. Your mind map should be at least one slide in length, but no more than two slides in length (not counting a title slide, if used).

Finally, from the Record tab in PowerPoint, utilize the Audio function to record narration to your mind map slide(s). Use the narration to explain your mind map, as you walk your audience through your thought process in analyzing this case study. Your narration must be at least a total of 90 seconds, but no longer than 2 minutes. Just include what I need to say.

The use of external sources and APA formatting is not required for this assignment.
