Job Performance Appraisal System
Think of a job you have had in the past or talk to someone you know about his or her job. Using what you know about the position, determine what the relevant performance criteria would be for the job.
- Determine what the relevant performance criteria would be for the job. In addition to any criteria you consider important, also consider the following:
- Performance Criteria measures are used to determine successful and unsuccessful job performance.
- Objective – measures of job performance that are easily quantified such as number of houses sold.
- Subjective – measures of job performance that typically consist of ratings or judgments of performance made by some knowledgeable individual, such as a worker’s supervisor.
- Develop objective or subjective methods for assessing the performance criteria. In addition to any method you consider important, also consider the following:
- Ranking
- Rating scales
- Checklists
- Behavioral observations
- Using the job from the prior question, design a performance appraisal system for the position. What does it consist of? Who will do the evaluations?
