Directions:Individual work- Research a microbe that may be useful for one of the following or similar topics that will help ecosystems.

  • Microbes to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Microbes to produce sustainable biofuels.
  • Microbes to reduce pollution.
  • Potable water from waste.
  • Microbes to make water.
  • Microbes for future food.
  • Microbes for clothing.
  • Microbes as biochips.

Paper submission                                                                                                        60 pointsFor any of the above topics selected, research one microbial species:

  • About the selected microbe:                                                                                    15 points
    • Taxonomy of the microbe along with the binomial Genus species.              (2 points)
    • Habitat                                                                                                       (3 points)
    • Environmental Role and metabolism                                                       (5 points)
    • Applications                                                                                              (5 points)
  • A plan to grow the chosen microbe- commercially or at a site where their application is needed-15 points.
  • Clinical implications for people handling the species.                                            10 points
  • Environmental implications of commercial use.                                                     10 points
  • Connection of Dallas College SDGs.                                                                      5 points
