Purpose of the Assignment: To practice writing and drafting. To learn the difference between drafting and revision. To develop your ideas in writing before developing a final draft.

Intended Audience: Classmates. Instructor.

Assignment Description:

1) Post draft of at least 350 words of your writing process analysis paper as a Word document for review. Make sure that it is accessible and that your peers and I can open it in order to receive credit. For this draft, focus on elaborating on a main point or two that you learned about your writing process. Use the list of influences and activities we’ve been doing to locate ideas and material for this draft.

2) Then respond to at least two of your classmates using the following questions. COPY and PASTE these questions into your response to your peer. Then answer each question. The answers must contain specific examples from your peers’ papers to support your feedback and/or help your peer know where exactly they need to look in their paper. The feedback must be relevant to the specific directions in the assignment and accurate. If too-general feedback or feedback that is inaccurate for the assignment expectations is provided, 0 points will be awarded for the peer review.

Draft Workshop Questions

  • Does the draft identify what the student learned from studying their writing process?
  • How can they expand any of the points they’ve provided in this draft? What points should they expand and why?
  • Make suggestions for expanding at least one point in this draft.
  • Is the draft providing evidence from the self-portrait or writing log to support the ideas and points made? Make suggestions for how and where the writer can improve on using evidence.
  • Does the writer connect what they are learning about their writing process back to the articles we read in the writing process unit? Make suggestions for how and where the writer can improve on using sources from the course.

Evaluation Method

Full points: You posted a draft of your paper as a word doc or PDF and you responded to at least two different students using the discussion questions above. You gave student formative feedback they could use.

3/4 Points: You did not post a draft of your paper, but you responded to two of your classmates using the questions above. You gave students formative feedback they can use to revise and move forward. 

1/2 points: You posted a draft, but you only respond to one classmate using the questions above.

1/4: You only posted a draft and did not respond to any of your classmates. 

No points: You didn’t post a draft or respond to classmates.
