(Project Topic – A Quality Improvement Project aimed at impacting early identification of anxiety through standardized screening tools and follow up in Psychiatric Settings)

The Paper is 10-15 Pages Maximum

 I. Introduction to the Policy (20 points)

  –  Pick a Policy that relates to your DNP Project topic: 

In the opening section of your paper, you must address all five criteria:

A:  Describe the existing policy clearly – Explain what the policy is, what it covers, and whom it affects.

B:  Identify the type of policy – State whether it is:

– legislative (state or federal),

– a law,

– rules/regulations,

– procedural policy,

– public policy,

– health policy,

– agency policy, or

– an accreditation-agency policy.

C:  Explain the history of the policy.

– Describe how and why it was developed.

– Explain how the policy affects or informs your proposed DNP project.

– Describe the gaps discovered through your needs assessment.

D: Analyze healthcare outcomes relevant to the policy.

– Discuss the frequency, severity, scope, and/or economic and budgetary impacts of the problem the policy addresses.

E: Describe the problem and its impact across systems.

– Explain how the issue appears in the micro, meso, and macro levels of the healthcare system.

II. Policy Characteristics & Disparities (20 points)

– In this section, analyze how the policy impacts disparities at the macro level:

A: Describe policy characteristics that influence disparities, including:

 – Ambiguities or conflicts in the policy

 – Problems or contradictions

 – Issues related to age, race, ethnicity, or gender

 – Socioeconomic status or education levels

 – Prejudice, bias, or discrimination within the policy or resulting from it

III. Policy Assumptions, Stakeholders, and Gaps (20 points)

 – This section focuses on evaluating the policy itself:

A: Describe the assumptions and effectiveness of the current policy.

B: Explain the effects on stakeholders (patients, providers, organizations, payers, etc.).

C: Address the inefficiencies of the policy.

D: Identify gaps in data or areas needing replacement or revision.

E : Use evidence-based literature to support the need for policy change.

IV. Policy Alternatives & Analysis (20 points)

 – This is your evaluation and recommendation section. Include all five criteria:

A: Identify unintended or unforeseen consequences if the policy is not improved.

    – Provide at least three evidence-based options for improving the policy.

B: Conduct a cost-benefit analysis for each policy alternative.

    – Costs may include money, time, or human resources.

    – Support your analysis with literature, not opinion.

C: Discuss the health impact of each policy alternative.

D: Discuss how each alternative affects stakeholders, including engagement or education needs.

E: Explain political and operational factors that influence adoption and feasibility of each alternative.

V. Structural Requirements (10 points)

   – Your paper must include all 10 items:

A: Title Page

B: Executive Summary

C: Table of Contents

D: Level 1 and 2 Headings

E: Total length of 10–15 pages

F: Primarily paraphrased writing (max 3 direct quotes)

G: In-text citations throughout to support arguments

H: Reference Page

I: Minimum of 10 scholarly sources

J: Appendix with the policy (link or full policy)

VI. APA Formatting (5 points)

 – Follow APA formatting for:

A: Title Page

B: Table of Contents

C: Executive Summary

D: Citations & Reference Page

E : Appendix Page

VII. Writing Mechanics (5 points)

– Your writing should demonstrate:

A: Proper grammar

B: Correct punctuation

C: Correct spelling

D: Proper spacing and margins

E: Correct use of level headings

     Student meets all 5 criteria 1. Clearly describes the existing policy.2. Clearly describes if the policy is legislative (state or federal), law, rules and regulations, procedural, public,health, agency policy, or accreditation agencies.3. Clearly describes the history of the policy. How does the policy affect or inform the proposed DNP project?Explained the gaps recognized in the policy that was found through the needs assessment.4. Clearly analyzed the healthcare and outcomes to understand the problem such as, frequency, severity, scope, or  economic and budgetary impacts.

5. Clearly described the problem and the impact within the systems- micro, meso, and macro systems.

B: Current Policy (or lack thereof) Excellent(20 points)

Student meets all 5 criteria (4 points each)1. Clearly describes the underlying assumptions and effectiveness of the current policy.2. Clearly describes the effect on stakeholders.3. Clearly addresses the inefficiency of the current policy.4. Clearly addresses the gaps in data or areas in need of replacement.5. Clearly addresses evidence-based literature to support a change

C: Policy Analysis Excellent20 points)Student meets all 5 criteria (4 points each)1. What are the unintended consequences or unforeseen consequences if the policy is not improved? Clearly describe a minimum of 3 options to improve the current policy.2. Clearly describes a cost-benefit analysis for each policy alternative. Costs may not always be monetary, but humancapital for example. Cost-benefit analysis is supported by a literature review or other evidence, not opinion.3. Clearly discuss the health impact of each policy alternative.4. Clearly discuss the impact on stakeholders (engagement or education) of each policy alternative.5. Clearly describes political and operational factors associated with the adoption and implementation (feasibility) of each policy alternative.

D: FormatExcellent(10 points)
