In your first discussion forum, you will select, narrow down, and share a research topic that you will use for your final paper in this course. Once you have selected your topic from this New York Times article, ( participate in this week’s discussion forum post by addressing the following:
- Follow the steps in Chapter 3 of The Craft of Research (3.3 through 3.4.3) to refine your topic and determine what “how,” “why,” and “so what” questions you can ask about your topic.
- Post the three-step statement of your argumentative paper topic following the example in 3.4.3 as a response to this post.
- Explain what you know about the topic so far and what you hope to learn more about through your research.
- List the types of questions you can ask about the topic.
In your responses to your classmates, ensure to address the following two areas:
- Have they sufficiently narrowed down their topic?
- Does their topic answer the “So what?” question and lead you to want to learn more about the subject?
