THE ISSUE ESSAY: AN EXERCISE IN “METACOGNITION”
Now that you have significantly researched your topic, write an issue paper of at least six pages where you consider the main points concerning your thesis and how you got there.
You may use the pronoun”I” in this paper as you reconstruct for me the narrative of your choice of topic, honing of the topic, first round of research, selection of research question, second round of research, and thesis statement.
Each part of this story and every point you make must show how the process has led to the development and support of your thesis statement.
Significantly explain these points, including source origin and credibility, and discuss your strategy for addressing them in your essay:
- What are the main points in or suggested by your thesis statement?
- How do you intend to support these points?
- Why do you consider the points you identify as crucial?
- At what point in the final paper will you introduce each point and how will you connect them logically for the reader?
Conclude with a thorough discussion of the nature of opposition (at least one potential counter argument) you have encountered regarding these points and the effect this opposition has had upon your thesis/essay development.
Also, discuss how you will address the opposition of your thesis argument/your position on this topic.
This issue essay is an overview of where you are at in this project. Discuss it with your peers. Ask for help and give help.
Include your Works Cited/References/Bibliography so I can see how you are doing on formatting. You can use in-text citations in the essay or merely mention by title/author the works you have found that are significant to the narrative of your project.
